Competent Person Training

Spider has delivered its hands-on 10-hour Competent Person Training to more than 15,000 people.

What is Competent Person Training?

OSHA defines a Competent Person in 29 CFR 1926.450(b) and 1926.32(f) as “one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.”

Spider’s Competent Person Training is designed to meet the OSHA standards. The program provides suspended scaffold operations training on hazard awareness and mitigation, fall protection, basic rigging techniques, and mitigation of site risks. When an individual successfully completes this program, an employer can deem them competent to use suspended scaffolding equipment.

What will the program do for me?

Once successfully completed, Spider’s Competent Person Training allows employers to deem an individual competent to use suspended scaffold equipment. While successfully completing this program cannot guarantee a safe workplace, it does provide workers with an in-depth knowledge of safe assembly and operational practices for suspended scaffolding equipment. Properly trained employees, working with well-designed and serviced equipment, go a long way toward ensuring job safety.

Workers completing the course receive a certificate suitable to show an OSHA inspector during on-site visits. In addition, completing the course provides proof of ongoing safety training for both OSHA and your insurance company and shows your general contractor or owner that you comply with OSHA safety codes for suspended scaffolds.

Wind Access Safety & Training

Spider’s Wind Access Safety & Training program provides content specialized to wind farm technicians.

This training is offered in our industry-leading training facility as well as at field locations with full access for safe rigging, ladder climbing and fall prevention. The content of this course meets the standards set by OSHA for competent person training and has also been approved by several wind turbine OEMs.

Individuals who successfully complete the program receive a certificate for verification.
